It is absolutely incredible to watch the level of carelessness that many Americans, their government leaders (at all levels) and some media outlets are exhibiting in the face of this deadly pandemic. Based on my former experience as a police officer some of this behaviour may actually meet the standard of criminal negligence which is defined as follows; "... conduct in which a person ignores a known or obvious risk, or disregards the life and safety of others. Federal and state courts describe this behavior as a form of recklessness, where the person acts significantly different than an ordinary person under similar circumstances." When you look at what some of these so-called leaders are doing it surprises me that the family members of some of the deceased have not taken them to task by initiating civil and/or criminal actions against their government leaders for their blatant negligent and irresponsible behaviour. People should be outraged by this behavior and should be demanding their municipal, state and federal leaders to do and be better. Unfortunately many more people will die because some people will continue to see this as a "political issue" versus what it truly is, i.e. a deadly pandemic.
